At the same time, you will also find useful information regarding the bilateral relation and friendship ties that exist between Azerbaijan and Mexico, as well as with other nations of Latin America.
Diplomatic relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan were established in 1992. Since January of 2007, this Embassy opened its doors with the purpose of consolidating the enduring friendship and cooperation relations currently existing between Azerbaijan and this region of the world. Our main task has been to work together with the Mexican authorities in strategic issues for both countries. As well, we have had a strong commitment to pursue new ways of interaction with all countries of the Latin American region. |

 In order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Genocide in Khojaly the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Mexican States conducted on Wednesday 22nd of February a concert of Azerbaijani classical music composer’s in the Manuel M. Ponce's hall of the Palace of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes) in Mexico City. Members of the Government of Mexico, Members of Diplomatic Corps in Mexico and friends of Azerbaijan attended the concert. During the event both Senator Jose Antonio Badia San Martin, member of the Foreign Relations Committee Asia-Pacific of the Senate of the Republic and Deputy Marcos Perez Esquer President of the Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Mexico-Azerbaijan and the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Mexico Ilgar Mukhtarov, addressed the audience.

 Foreign Minister of Mexico Patricia Espinosa Cantellano has sent a letter of congratulation to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The letter notes successful development of bilateral relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan in terms of their nations' interests, as well as relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. According to the letter, high-level contacts between the countries, bilateral visits of government representatives and established cooperation projects enable to further expand the cooperation in bilateral and multilateral manner.

Press release of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Mexico 20.01.2012  During the night of 19th to 20th of January 1990 the top Soviet authorities leaded by Mikhail Gorbachev, perpetrated an atrocious crime against the Azerbaijani people in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan in a brutal and yet futile attempt to strangle the growing independence movement and to prevent the fall of the Soviet Communist regime in Azerbaijan. The invasion was launched against unarmed civilians with ferocity and without mercy for children, women and the elderly. The aggression progressed into the massive murder of civilians most of which were children and elderly people. More than 133 people died from wounds received that night, the majority of the civilian deaths happened by the hands of Soviet soldiers, more than 700 civilians were wounded. This massacre entered the history of Azerbaijan with the name of ‘Black January’. The Human Rights Watch reported that "among the most heinous violations of human rights during the Baku incursion were the numerous attacks on medical personnel, ambulances and even hospitals". On January 22 of that year, “The Washington Post” quoted an eyewitness who stated: “Soviet soldiers fired at almost anything that moved in the early hours of their occupation”. |

Dear countrymen!
Dear fellows!
I would like to cordially congratulate you on occasion of 31 December-Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis which is a symbol of unity and organization of our people, national sympathy and loyalty to homeland.
This is a bright holiday, created thanks to the initiative of our national leader Heydar Aliyev 20 years ago, it warms up the hearts of all our countrymen in the world with the heat of Homeland, gives them the love for independent Azerbaijani state.
The Azerbaijani government, which attaches special attention to the national unity of our countrymen, keeps the diaspora construction a center of attention. Conduction of the third session of the World Azerbaijanis in Baku in summer of this year laid a new stage on the way of organizational formation of our countrymen living in foreign countries and strengthening of their contacts with homeland. The session assessed the activity of diaspora structures, adopted important decisions, attaching impulse to raising mobility and organized promptness of our countrymen.
It was encouraging that the ideas of Azerbaijanity among our countrymen living abroad, their feeling of national sympathy are strengthening every year. Today our countrymen abroad enhance their positions in sociopolitical, cultural and business life of the countries of their residence, bring weighty contribution to popularization of Azerbaijan in the world and propaganda of our culture. Our countrymen living in European countries contributed to victory, gained by our representatives of the spring of this year at the prestigious international cultural competition-Eurovision 2011 song contest. I do hope that our diaspora organizations will not limit to the achieved successes, strengthen cooperation with the State Committee for Diaspora Affairs and our diplomatic representatives in foreign countries and will respond promptly and effectively to new challenges.
Dear countrymen!
This year we marked the 20th anniversary of our state independence. Achievements attained by Azerbaijan over 20 years demonstrate our love for work, high intellectual capacities and the striving of our citizens to create and construct. The critical state, covering the country in the first years of independence, difficulties and deprivations facing our country are now left behind and the poverty rate and unemployment were reduced to minimum. The planned reforms, state programs covering different spheres and implementation of large-scale infrastructural projects have turned Azerbaijan into a dynamically developing, strong and democratic state, positioned it in the world as an influential and reliable partner. The fact that Azerbaijan which gained victory in this year’s elections in the UN Security Council won support of 155 countries is a bright demonstration of respect and trust of the world community for our country.
At the current stage, the processes ongoing in the world are rapidly changing. The problems, dangerous tendencies which appear on the global, regional and local levels, cause economic crises and social concerns, have strong impact on international ties. In such conditions the strengthening of achieved success and provision of stable development of our country is of great importance. The recently signed resolution of the program about preparation of the Development Concept “Azerbaijan 2020: look into future” is aimed at the clear definition of perspective tasks and ways of their settlement in this very sphere.
The power of the Azerbaijani state and the creative potential of our people give us the confidence that we will attain the new goals. However, we still face the unsettled task-the restoration of the territorial integrity of our state, violated as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, provision of return of refugees and displaced persons to their homes. I do not doubt that we will soon cope with this difficult problem, put an end to occupation and injustice, committed before the eyes of the whole world.
Dear sisters and brothers!
One of the main provisions of cutting the way to victory, justice is our unity and solidarity. Therefore, I urge all Azerbaijanis to unite further and continue contributing to protection of national and civil rights of our countrymen residing in the world, consistent protection of the interests of our independent state and raising its international influence.
I would like to congratulate you on this wonderful holiday and I wish you all health and happiness, as well as success in all affairs!

Baku, 15 December 2011  Mexican Senate delegation performs first official visit to Azerbaijan, they are received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Chairman of Milli Majlis (Parliament) Ogtay Asadov, Members of Mexico Azerbaijan Friendship group in Milli Majlis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister of Energy, Natig Aliyev and the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Niyazi Safarov.
President Ilham Aliyev has received the delegation from the Mexican Senate led by senator, Carlos Jimenez Macias.
The President said that Azerbaijan was interested in developing bilateral relations with Mexico. President Ilham Aliyev stressed that in order to develop relations between the two countries, it is necessary to expand cooperation in all directions, including the parliamentary level. Pointing to the importance of the visit by a Mexican Senate delegation to Azerbaijan from the standpoint of development of relations between the two countries, the President expressed hope that such mutual visits would become a tradition from now on. |
